This restaurant exceeded my expectations! The food was great. For appetizers we had a special platter that had monfongo, akra, and tassot. Was great! The tassot was soft and not hard. The akra wasn't greasy like other places. For dinner I had the griot and the rice was great! This blows Tap Tap out the water. If you want a taste of real Caribbean and Haitian food with a nice ambiance and great staff then come here. This was a soft opening and we hear that they will have a grand opening next week. We are coming back for my moms birthday. Check out the fish my dad had. It was great! Five stars!

I've passed this place many times going to a chain-- I won't anymore! Wow! A real chef, in Florida, using fresh food!!?? Who would have thunk it? The prices were what you would pay for far inferior food as well.. I started with the Beef Mofongo! Well actually they serve a hummus plate for free before that which was AWESOME!. The Mofongo was great! It came with a salad with passion fruit dressing which was also really great.. I'm not the biggest fan of sweet dressings, but it was very flavorful! For my meal I wanted to keep it light and had the special chopped salad with grilled salmon, which was also great! I will definitely be back to try some more of this great food.. Also the chef was gracious enough to come out and see how I liked everything (I love that!) Yum!

This is such a great place to eat! Delicious and fresh! Ivan will come out and even make you something special, not even on the menu!! He's won awards on TV's cooking shows! I'm impressed! I've had many fish dishes on the menu including the crab cakes, and they have all been great! A hidden gem, for sure!

This place was surprisingly good. For appetizers we had the jerk wings which were just okay - they didn't have much jerk flavor so they tasted more like plain grilled wings. The main entree is what saved the night- I ordered the oxtail and my boyfriend ordered the grilled fish which took forever to come out but it was definitely worth the wait. There was a woman there that seemed to be the only knowledgeable waiter - everyone else seemed to only be concerned with refilling my water

This place was a nice surprise !!! I was hanging out with Book Club and the president chose this spot. We had the app. platter. It was delicious with mofongo, and other treats . I will attach a pic. I had the oxtails and they were tasty .

first time here, definitely will not be the last! psyched to have really fantastic Caribbean food in our neighborhood. And we watched Chef Ivan win Chopped a couple yrs ago.. very cool! Really like the décor inside, we sat outside (also nice outdoor covered seating) bc we had dogs with us. Always a big plus for us to be able to have the dogs without any issue. We did the crab cake, shrimp mofongo, griot.. all so so good. And the complimentary hummus with plantain chips!! There were a bunch of other menu items we wanted to try, so next time(s). And.. Caribbean lemonade, could've had 10 of those!!! Our server was Joel, and he was awesome.. 5 stars for Joel also!

So excited that my friend and talented chef, Ivan has opened a new restaurant!! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the employees friendly, knowledgeable and attentive! Now, on to the food..this not Ivan's first rodeo! This chef knows his stuff...we started with hummus and plantains. Delish! Then for an appetizer we had shrimp mofongo (made into cups filled with shrimp) with a delicious red sauce...excellent and so beautifully plated. My boyfriend had a nice oversized piece of grilled skirt steak with grilled onions and a side of mashed potatoes. I'm a vegetarian so I only tasted the potatoes that were fluffy, creamy, yet dense all at the same time! Have to learn Ivan's technique and the bf said the steak was excellent. I had a delicious Greek salad with a really nice light dressing. The presentation of the salad was very impressive. I plan on coming back again and again to try many more dishes on the interesting menu that Ivan has created!!! I recommend this restaurant also if you just want to have some wine, hear some music and just chill with friends!

Excellent Caribbean Haitian restaurant. The house lemonade is really nice and not what you find in your average restaurant. A complimentary opening treat was the hummus with crispy fried plantain chips. Followed that with tasty, non greasy, saltfish cakes with two dipping sauces and shrimp mofongo. We couldn't stop eating till they were finished. The oxtail and griot were very good with sides of Mac & Cheese and rice and beans. We made room for the boniato pudding with vanilla ice cream and cleaned the plate. Service was friendly and at attentive. Worth the drive from the Gables.

I was looking for something "different" in the area and Ivan's Gastro attracted my attention. I am happy I found this place - it's a newcomer. Tasso (flash fried meat) was delicate and juicy, the oxtail delicious and coconut rice and lima beans flavorful. Ivan came out to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. Looking forward to trying other dishes soon!

Great place! If you go you have to try the hummus appetizer...ohmygosh it is delicious! Also, Chef Ivan personally will come and see how you are doing and ask if u liked the food. That was a real treat. Its a really nice place the only con is it's tucked away and can be easy to miss. However, once you go once you will want to go again and again. *Chef Ivan was the 2012 "Chopped" winner from the food network. So when you go its kinda like meeting a celebrity.*

Amazing find with high quality food at very affordable prices. Companion had the NY strip steak which was perfectly cooked, very tasty, huge piece. Would have cost more than double elsewhere. Hummus appetizer was the best ever tasted. They should bottle and sell this. Ordered one to go. Grilled/spicy edamame was great as was the unusual soup called Lemon and Lime. Coconut Lima beans and rice were memorable. Chef Ivan made me a great vegan dish with tofu and veggies. They have wine and sake only. Recommend the Caribbean Lemonade. Looked at lunch menu and it is very affordable with many choices. Comfortable restaurant with nice atmosphere. You can also sit outside.

We finally stopped by this Carib Asian cuisine gem for dinner and we were delighted by the entire experience. The hostess was friendly, the waitress attentive and knowledgable, and even Chef Ivan came to our table at the end of the night to ask how we enjoyed the food. Which we loved! We sat inside and enjoyed the modern atmosphere. A very inviting outdoor area is also available. A nice surprise to see, instead of a bread basket they bring to each table a plate of hummus and plantain chips. Two plates were quickly devoured! My husband enjoyed the grilled churrasco cooked to perfection. They were out of the pan seared shrimp I wanted to order, however my second choice did not disappoint. I had the very fresh mozzarella salad with the crab cakes. Plenty of fresh crab in each bite. A must order!! The side salad of fresh greens, tomatoes, and cucumbers that accompanied our meals was fresh and flavorful. We will no doubt be back to enjoy their lunch menu and take in another very satisfying dinner. You do not want to miss out on this restaurant!

FABULOUS!! Everything from the ambience to the presentation and delectable flavor of the food was excellent!! We had a sampler plate of appetizers which consisted of Tassot, Acra & Monfongo and it was delicious. I had the oxtail entrée which was so tender it fell off the bone. My husband had the grilled fish and all he did was rave about it the whole time. My daughter had the Griot also very tender and delicious. Coming back soon!!! Oh, by the way the serving staff was extremely attentive and polite. Both thumbs up!!

Tucked into a strip mall on Biscayne Blvd. this little gem is an unexpected fine and so worth a try! Great ambience, friendly and efficient waitstaff, and humble owner/chef. This is a Caribbean-Asian fusion restaurant with a variety of dishes. The food is tasty, seasoned just right and cooked to perfection. I can go on and on but you need to come down and try for yourselves! It is worth it!

I was very impressed with the menu at Ivan's Gastro. The food was great. The ambiance was good, nice music being played and Chef Ivan comes out to greet all of his customers. I would definitely return there.

This was my first visit and it was fantastic! The staff (from waitress to bartender, to the chef himself who came out to greet guests) were so incredibly warm and knowledgeable. The food was amazing! I ate my food and tried my friend's food. Beet salad, mac and cheese, chicken, rice, and great drinks! I live in a "food city" but this is now at the top of my list and will make this one of the first places I come to when I visit Miami. It was a wonderful experience!
